To schedule the Part 107 test, obtain your FAA Tracking Number (FTN) through IACRA, then use the FAA-linked PSI scheduling portal to book Unmanned Aircraft General - Small (UAG) at an approved testing center. Confirm the test name, identification requirements, location, appointment time, and payment before finishing. IACRA handles your FAA identity and certificate application; PSI handles the examination appointment. The FAA certification instructions establish that sequence.
This process is for the initial U.S. remote pilot knowledge test. An existing remote pilot seeking recurrent training, or a qualifying Part 61 pilot, may need a different route.
1. Confirm that UAG is the test you need
If you are applying for your first remote pilot certificate through the knowledge-test route, select UAG. TRUST, the recreational-flyer safety test, does not replace it. A Part 61 pilot certificate other than a student certificate, together with a current flight review, can qualify you for the FAA's online initial-training route instead. The FAA Aeronautical Information Manual explains these distinctions and states that documented pre-test training is not required for UAG.
Already hold a remote pilot certificate? The FAA provides online recurrent training, including ALC-677, to maintain knowledge recency within the applicable 24-calendar-month period. Check that route before paying for another initial exam.
The FAA testing matrix, revised October 22, 2025, lists 14 as the minimum UAG testing age. Certificate eligibility starts at 16. The general AIM testing summary says 16; for a younger applicant, confirm admission with PSI using the matrix's specific UAG row before booking. Do not treat permission to sit the exam as permission to receive the certificate early.
The matrix also specifies that UAG requires no instructor endorsement or other written test authorization. A purchased ground-school completion certificate is not a prerequisite for an initial attempt.
2. Obtain or recover your FTN in IACRA
Start at FAA IACRA, the Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application system. Use your existing account if you have one. A new applicant should follow its registration process and retain the assigned FTN before continuing to PSI.
Treat this as an identity check, not simply an account-creation task. Have your government ID beside you and compare your name and birth date with the information you enter. Resolve discrepancies before attaching a test appointment to the record. Do not create another FAA identity simply because you have forgotten how to access an existing account.
Keep these three identifiers separate:

This recordkeeping distinction combines the FAA's certification instructions with its Airman Testing FAQs. Save the booking confirmation alongside the FTN, then add the score report after testing. The table is an organizational aid, not an additional FAA form.
3. Find a center and confirm the appointment
Use Schedule an Airman Knowledge Test on the FAA Airman Testing page, which links to the approved scheduling service. Sign in or register there separately from IACRA. Enter the requested applicant details and FTN, then select UAG by its full name.
The FAA's testing FAQ describes searching Find a Test Center using country, postal code, distance, and examination. Compare reachable locations before selecting a date. A nearby result is a place to investigate; your appointment confirmation establishes the actual booking.
Before submitting, check:
- The examination is UAG, not a similarly named aviation exam.
- The applicant information agrees with your FAA record and ID.
- You can reach the exact address at the displayed appointment time.
- Any accommodation request has been addressed for that session.
- The charge, cancellation terms, and confirmation details are clear.
For budgeting, Sporty's Academy's testing-center page lists a $175 examination fee, checked September 6, 2026. Verify your own booking's total before paying; this is a published center fee, not a quote for every applicant or an appointment-availability promise. Travel and optional preparation are separate expenses.
PSI's UAG applicant bulletin describes email confirmation and accommodation requests during scheduling. Save the confirmation and resolve accommodation arrangements before travel. Scheduling support: 844-704-1487.
4. Check your documents before test day
The testing matrix requires current, valid ID establishing a photo, birth date, signature, and residential address. Multiple documents can supply the information. Address evidence can include a signed lease or water, electric, or gas statement. Cable bills and post-office-box addresses do not qualify.
Check the matrix's separate provisions for non-U.S. applicants and minors without acceptable ID. Confirm unusual circumstances with PSI ahead of the appointment.
Use the actual documents when doing this check. Looking at the right name in an email cannot establish that an expired ID or an old residential address will be accepted.
PSI recommends arriving 15 minutes early and excludes phones, watches, and study notes from the testing room. Allow parking time and arrange secure storage.
The FAA matrix allows two hours, lists 60 questions, and requires a 70% passing score. The UAG bulletin additionally specifies five unscored questions within that time. Reserve time around the examination for check-in and departure, rather than treating the two-hour allowance as the entire visit.
For preparation, use the free official sample questions linked through the testing portal. The FAA's February 2026 testing advisory reports embedded figures in unmanned-aircraft test questions. Practicing with the current sample interface helps you recognize the presentation; sample questions are not a complete preview of the live exam.
5. Change a booking or plan a retest correctly
The UAG bulletin requires cancellation notice at least 24 hours before the appointment to cancel and reschedule. Voicemail does not count. Confirm the change and check your booking's terms, rather than applying another profession's PSI deadline.
PSI says emergency center closures receive rescheduling without an additional charge. Verify closure through your account or appointment notices before changing travel plans.
After a failed UAG attempt, the FAA requires a 14-day wait before retesting and presentation of the failed Airman Knowledge Test Report (AKTR). UAG does not require an instructor endorsement for that retest. Use the report's deficiency codes to guide further study before choosing another date.
6. Keep the result and finish the certificate application
The testing center issues an AKTR after the exam. Check the identifying information and keep the report. The FAA testing FAQ explains that reports from tests taken on or after January 13, 2020, can be reprinted through the testing portal.
After passing, return to IACRA and complete FAA Form 8710-13 for a remote pilot certificate. The FAA says to enter the 17-digit Knowledge Test Exam ID when prompted and allow up to 48 hours for the result to appear. Follow the subsequent security-screening and temporary-certificate instructions.
An appointment, a passing score, and an issued certificate are different milestones. Do not promise an employer a pilot-in-command start date based only on the exam booking. Keep the confirmation, result, and eventual certificate as separate records, and plan aircraft-specific practice and the safety checks for your intended operation before accepting flight responsibility.
