Editorial Policy

Purpose and scope

Unmanned Systems Institute publishes practical education for safer, more capable professional drone operations. Coverage is written for pilots, operators, program managers, and people entering professional UAS work in the United States.

We are an independent publication. We do not issue credentials, accredit instruction, approve operators, represent the FAA, or replace advice from a qualified professional who understands a reader's facts.

Accuracy and editorial judgment

Consequential claims should be traceable to current primary sources. Rules, agency guidance, professional practice, and editorial judgment are identified as different kinds of information. When sources conflict, controlling law takes priority and the conflict is disclosed.

Articles answer the primary question early, explain material exceptions, and state when an authorization, manufacturer instruction, contract, state rule, or mission-specific assessment can change the answer.

Authorship and experience claims

Published articles use the organizational byline “Unmanned Systems Institute Editorial.” We do not attribute personal experience, hands-on testing, credentials, interviews, or site visits unless they occurred and can be documented. Product “review” language is reserved for genuine evaluation with a disclosed method.

Independence and commerce

Editorial conclusions are not for sale. This publication contains no advertising, paid placement, active affiliate links, sponsored content, ratings, commercial product prices, or commercial partners. Any later commercial relationship must be disclosed where it could affect a reader's interpretation.

Updates and corrections

Aviation rules and agency workflows change. Material pages carry a fact-check date and source list. A correction is made promptly when evidence shows the published text is wrong or materially incomplete. Significant changes are evaluated across related coverage, metadata, feeds, and diagrams.
